Eating out is one of the best things to do in New York City. But nothing beats a really great steak. We’ve been scouring the Big Apple to find the best that City has to offer when it comes to meat lovers. Among all the kinds of restaurants there are to eat at, consider the best steakhouses. These are special places for special occasions. From the high-end hotels to the local brasseries and hip newcomers, there’s something here for everybody. Time to start working your way through this list and find out which steakhouse is best in New York City.
Keens steakhouse
This Midtown spot has been around since 1885. It fully embraces its history and lore, but not at the expense of the main attraction – the meat on your plate. The granddaddy of all NYC steakhouses, this Midtown temple to meat remains rock solid, with sinful Flintstones-size mutton chops and other succulent slabs of beef in masculine museum-like surrounds with lines upon lines of antique pipes on the ceiling. It’s not for the weak of wallet. But welcoming service and an endless scotch selection are other reasons you won’t regret splurging.
Gallaghers Steakhouse
This time-honored Time Square chophouse was given an elaborate face-lift a few years back. The wood-paneled walls and ancient horseshoe-shaped bar were polished and repaired, and the famous aging room in the front of the house (yes, they age their own beef here) was updated and expanded. Like at the other storied beef houses, the cuts of aged steer are generous, if increasingly extravagantly priced. You can enjoy them for lunch, dinner, or any hour in between.
Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse
On any given night, suited regulars cluster together in the lobby of Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House. The interior is refreshingly airy and modern compared to other stodgy steakhouses. Yet it still preserves a classic touch of urbanity. Del Frisco’s steaks are broiled at an incendiary 1,500 degrees and finished on a grill before being quickly shuttled to the dining room for carving. A front-row seat to this theatric tableside production alone is worth the hefty prices.
Club A Steakhouse
Club A Steakhouse provides a truly unique dining experience. Family owned and operated the owner Bruno Selimaj or one of his three sons are onsite and greets each guest every night. Club A manages to encompass the characteristics of a traditional steak house and new world modernism that is evident in both the menu and décor. The warmth paired with the distinct menu and extensive wine list make it perfect for any occasion.
Benjamin Steakhouse Prime
The family owned and operated Benjamin Restaurant Group has grown to comprise some of the metro area’s premier culinary destinations. Offering high quality food in luxurious environments, Benjamin Steakhouse Prime melds together classic steakhouse fare and fresh and vibrant seafood with the grill as the main focus. All locations offer the quintessential New York dining experience that business executives, locals and celebrities have come to know and love.
